With the recent release of the revised Standards for RTOs by the Department of Employment and Workplace Relations (DEWR), RTOs across Australia must now embark on the journey to elevate their RTO to ensure quality and integrity across the VET sector. The revised Standards shift from a prescriptive framework to one focused on outcomes, fostering a flexible, quality-driven approach to VET.
As highlighted in ASQA’s latest update this new framework is designed not just to enhance compliance but to ensure quality outcomes are at the core of every training provider’s operations.
The transition to applying the revised Standards presents a unique opportunity for RTOs to reassess their current systems, policies and practices ensuring they are aligned with the revised Standards. As a Registered Training Organisation, now is the perfect time to create a structured transition plan that will help you adapt to these changes while maintaining your commitment to delivering high-quality training and assessment.
At Coast Wide Training Solutions, we’re here to support your RTO every step of the way. We are committed to helping RTOs like yours not only meet these standards but exceed them – positioning you as a quality provider in the VET sector. That's why we have developed the:
RTO Standards 2025 - Transition Kit!
But more about that later. Here’s an in-depth look at why a transition plan is essential and how you can effectively guide your RTO through this change.
1. Take a Fresh Look
ASQA has encouraged all providers to take a fresh, holistic look at their systems, processes and practices. To look deeply into how you do things – how you run your RTO, manage and engage your students, allocate your resources, monitor and improve your operations.
Our Internal Compliance Audit services are crafted to align with this vision. We work with you to assess risk factors, identify any areas where improvements can be made and develop actionable plans for continuous improvement.
Alternatively, we have prepared a QMS 2025 Compliance Framework Audit Tool that will help you review your operations, and with your supporting evidence, give you guidance on what you may need to implement to ensure you comply with the revised Standards.
Let us help you self-assure that your processes align with the new standards and that you’re fully prepared for regulatory engagement.
2. Establish a Strong Foundation
ASQA’s revised Standards signal a shift towards outcome-based quality over prescriptive compliance. Our Quality Management System is designed with this new approach in mind, offering adaptable and robust frameworks that will set you up for long-term success.
This system supports you in delivering high-quality training that meets industry demands, aligning your RTO’s goals with ASQA’s expectations for quality and integrity.
We have also developed a range of online courses that can also support you implement key facets of the QMS, with a practical approach to ensure you have a range of support tools to improve your RTO’s practices.
Our QMS Essentials Series is a collection of short, impactful online courses designed to equip RTO staff with practical knowledge on key compliance components of the revised Standards.
3. Get Help!
Implementing these Standards isn’t a one-time effort; it requires consistent upkeep and strategic improvement. Our Compliance Support and RTO Administration Support services are available to ensure you have ongoing, expert guidance throughout your journey. Whether you need help with policy updates, staff training, administration tasks, or understanding the best evidence practices, Coast Wide is here to help you navigate each step of this transformative phase.
We have developed an RTO Standards 2025 Transition Kit to help streamline your own shift to the updated standards.
The purpose of the Transition kit is to guide you through the necessary steps to align with the revised Standards in preparation for their implementation in July 2025. The objectives of this kit are to:
• Facilitate a smooth transition to the 2025 Standards.
• Provide clear instructions for using self-assessment, audit, and compliance tools.
• Ensure ongoing quality, continuous improvement, and self-assurance through an effective framework.
How will ASQA help you?
ASQA intend to engage with providers over the coming months by progressively releasing draft Regulatory Guidelines and conduct a number of events to inform, educate and support you to transition to and implement the revised Standards. HOWEVER… these guidelines will serve as a tool in supporting you to self-assess and review your own policies and practices.
The revised Standards require an updated way of thinking about your RTO’s operations. Direct mapping will stand in the way of identifying opportunities for improvement.
This will lead to “calculated compliance” whereas the revised Standards require you to understand the intent and apply a practical quality approach to your operations.
ASQA have said that they will provide tools for self-assessment and reflective questions that encourage you to identify opportunities for positive changes.
Prescribing evidence requirements can prevent and hinder quality and innovation. You will need to determine how YOUR RTO specifically demonstrates compliance to the Standards.
This would be motivated by a regulatory strategy to catch providers out - which is not ASQA’s intent.
ASQA is shifting towards a supportive, long-term approach to compliance, a flexible model that encourages RTOs to prioritise sustainable, quality improvements over simply meeting rigid standards.
